Italian Street Song (Naughty Marietta) Victor Herbert

Cherie loves a wide range of music but finds that her truly favorite music to sing are songs in English. This is the first program she will be singing songs by the composer, Vittorio Gianni.

“I love his music because of the passion that spills over through the music and words. Having recently lost my mother, Rosalind M. Luke Crosby due to acute leukemia, the words of sadness, loneliness and heartbreak in Gianni’s songs along with the incredibly romantic quality of melody really stirs my soul. I also couldn’t think of singing a program without including one of my mom’s compositions. She definitely captured through music the words of Dylan Thomas’ “Fern Hill.” Of course like most artists, it is really hard to narrow down one’s choices of music. I hope you will enjoy this program as much as I enjoyed preparing it. I always feel so grateful that in the midst of the everyday cares of the world, I can be a part of something magical and beautiful, music.” – Cherie Shoemaker
